Grass Pants Looks at the Summer 2012 Anime Lineup

I can’t believe we’ve got another one of these things already. As always, I’ll be excluding continuations to series I’ve yet to watch and movies. Click the header image to check out the full thing and many, many thanks to everyone who put it together.

As a whole, this season doesn’t look like anything special. There’s the potential for some cool stuff, but 90% of it looks like the same harem/romance nonsense I try to avoid. Arcana Famiglia is probably my ‘high point’ as far as these synopses and screenshots go. I’ll see how everything plays out and watch what looks interesting. If you want more detailed thoughts about most of the stuff on the list, as well as me being a smartass, check out the stuff below the cut. Anyway, I will see you fine folks on Monday provided that nothing big happens this weekend. As always, thanks for reading and have a good’un.

Kingdom – It’s interesting to see something about Chinese history pop up. I may give this a shot because I’m a sucker for history, but the art isn’t terribly appealing from what little I’ve seen.

Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imouto ga Iru! – From the short little description here, I can only say that a creepy incest undertone that outdoes Elfen Lied springs to mind. Anyone else remember the main character’s cousin practically making out with him on the shrine steps? Weird stuff, man.

Moyashimon Returns – I lied about not including sequels to stuff I’ve never seen, because this is just too good to pass up. It’s like Japan isn’t satisfied with being strange by our standards, so they’re going to be strange by their own. I really hope I can enjoy this without having seen the original series.

Natsuyuki Rendezvous – Not a fan of romance, so don’t expect me to cover this outside of a first impressions post (maybe).

Hagure Yuusha no Estetica – This has promise; combining Biblical mythology name-drops and a mix of modern/fantasy settings is a sure way to get me interested. I hope the female lead isn’t Isanami-level annoying this time around, though. Or that the main character isn’t your stereotypical Badass McCoolGuy.

Sword Art Online – So it’s like the .hack series without the pretension or incest. Sounds interesting, I’ll give it a shot.

Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita – More modern-fantasy! I’m willing to bet that a fairy and a likely-male protagonist will fall in love and everyone will live happily ever after and more romantic comedy nonsense. Quit that, Japan.

Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate – Considering it’s based off an H-game, I’m fully expecting a harem with minimal plot. I hope I’m wrong.

Dakara Boku wa, H ga Dekinai – Is it me or does the main character look like Yukiteru with a sheepish grin? Porn with an attempt at a plot, moving on!

Dog Days – The idea of a sequel coming out soon only reminds me that I’ve really got to finish the original series. Probably going to try and watch this, but I can’t promise anything.

Aruvu Rezuru: Kikai Jikake no Yousei-tachi – I’m getting a really big MegaTen vibe from this. Hoping for something excellent because the premise sounds amazing.

Oda Nobuna no Yabou – Oh look, it’s Sengoku Collection, but backwards. Checking out the first episode due to my inner historian, but if it becomes a harem I am dropping it. What’d I tell you about harems, Japan?

La storia della Arcana Famiglia – Well this is a hell of a departure from the norm. I’m liking what I’m seeing so far and I’m kind of hoping the ‘competition’ goes all Battle Royale on us.

Chitose Get You!! – It’s like Kodomo no Jikan without the porn, I guess? No real interest, so it probably won’t even get a second glance from me.

Binbou-gami ga! – What’s with this season and the exclamation marks? Also, ‘Happiness Energy’ is either a euphemism for her breasts being large or comes from that fact. Just going to go ahead and call that now.
